James E. Chaffin May 19, 1944 - June 29, 2025

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of James Chaffin, affectionately known as Jim, who went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 29th 2025. Born on May 19th 1944 in Horse Creek, WV Jim lived a life rich with his family and the simple joys he held dear.

Jim dedicated 33 years of his life as a Wayne County school bus driver, making him a familar face in his community. Beyond his dedicated service, he had a deep passion for bluegrass and bluegrass gospel music. And anyone who knows Jim also knows that he had a lifelong love affair with old cars and drag racing. These hobbies were more than just a pasttimes, they were a vibrant part of who Jim was bringing him immense pleasure and countless memories.

Jim was a reformed roustabout and member of Brush Creek United Baptist Church in Genoa, WV. Jim's faith became a cornerstone of his life.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife of almost 60 years, Wanda Chaffin, and his parents Lawrence and Hazel Chaffin, as well as nine brothers and sisters.

Jim is survived by his two sons, Roderick Chaffin and Ronald Chaffin; and one grandson who is like a son Thomas Chaffin; and three more cherished grandsons Anthony Chaffin, Gabe Chaffin, and Garrick Chaffin, one brother Charles Chaffin, and two sisters Beulah Chaffin and Delsa Evans.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 2nd at noon at the Wilson Funeral Home with Bro. Charlie Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in the Chaffin Family Cemetery at Fort Gay, WV. 

Friends may visit the family from 11:00 am Wednesday until time of services at the Wilson Funeral Home.

Care for Jim and his family has been entrusted to our family at Wilson Funeral Home.
