Dennie Ross Chaffin, Jr. Obituary

Dennie Ross Chaffin Jr., 89, passed peacefully from this life into the arms of his Savior on August 10, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Born on December 23, 1935, he was the son of the late Dennie Ross and Elizabeth Chaffin Sr. and lived a long, full life marked by devotion—to his family, his faith, and the simple joys of home.

Married for sixty-six years to Mona Roberts Chaffin, he built a legacy of steadfast love, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment. Together, they raised a family in their home filled with love, laughter, and shared faith.

A man of many talents, Dennie Ross could fix anything he set his hands to. He was happiest when working outdoors—mowing the fields, tending the garden and animals, tinkering in his barn, and working on anything with an engine. His craftsmanship extended beyond the workshop, as he was also a gifted musician. A talented fiddle player, he enjoyed playing bluegrass music with other musicians in the community in his younger years. His resourcefulness, craftsmanship, and musical ability were matched only by his generosity in using those gifts to teach and help others.

Faith was the cornerstone of his life. As a Christian, Dennie Ross dedicated countless hours to reading and studying the Bible and finding wisdom and peace in God’s Word. He served faithfully in his church, singing in the choir for many years and uplifting others with both his voice and his example.

Though he loved working with his hands, Dennie Ross was a homebody at heart—content to spend time with family, care for his land, and nurture the life he and his wife built together. His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the example he was to all who were fortunate to know him.

Dennie Ross is survived by his wife, Mona Roberts Chaffin, son Keith (Dina) Chaffin and daughter Jennifer (Doug Perry) Patrick. Also surviving are grandchildren Wesley (Sahar) Chaffin, Cody Patrick, and Megan (Brett) Ritchie, along with great grandchildren, Simon Ross Patrick and Layla Cain Chaffin. Dennie Ross also leaves behind a sister, Effie Louise Short, cousins Denver Chaffin and Jack Priode, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will take place on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Wilson Funeral Home from 5:00-9:00 PM.

A celebration of his life will be held at the Louisa Free Will Baptist Church on August 16, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery in Louisa, Kentucky.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Louisa Free Will Baptist Church Building Fund.
