In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his granddaughter Abryanna Hayes; a sister, Cathy Hayes; and grandparents, Carl (Gracie) (Jean) Hayes and Grover (Virginia) Slone.
He is survived by his wife and caregiver of 9 years, Jennifer Hayes, who never left his side throughout his sicknesses; his children, Jerrica (Corbin) Jude, Autumn (Blake) Rice, Jeffrey (Amanda) Hayes II, and a special son, Matt Shipley "Sonny Boy"; his grandchildren, Amelia Jude, Camdyn Rice, and Zane Hayes; two step-grandchildren Zachary Thompson and Zoey Thompson; his father Willie (Linda) Hayes; his brothers Tim (Paula) Hayes and Willie (Tammy) Hayes Jr.; two brother-in-laws, Tim (Lelia) Robinson, and Scott (Kala) Robinson; a host of very special nieces, nephews, aunts, and friends who will miss him dearly. Last but not least, his special fur friend, Heidi, that he loved so much.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, papaw, son, brother, and friend. Jeff was loved by all those who had the opportunity to know him. He was known for his love of jokes, especially "Dad Jokes" and puns. No matter if he was in pain or having a difficult day, he always had a smile on his face. One of the most humble, kind, and giving people, he would give someone the very last thing he had. Jeff lived his life to serve God and others. He was always eager to strike up a conversation and crack a joke with anyone. He loved to laugh and share joy with others. His smile was contagious and his laugh could light up any room.
He loved to go to church, minister, travel, watch the Atlanta Braves play baseball, sing, listen to music, and spend time with his family. Most importantly, Jeff loved the Lord with all his heart. He was a devout Christian and minister for most of his life. Through sickness, trial, and suffering, he was a true reflection of steadfast faith. Jeff was loved deeply by his family and will be missed beyond measure. While our hearts may be hurting, we rejoice knowing that he is now whole. His body has been made new, free from illness, pain, and sorrow, and he is forever in the presence of his Savior, who he loved so dearly.
"Well done, good and faithful servant.....Enter into the joy of your Lord." -- Matthew 25:23
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." --- 2 Timothy 4:7
