Obituary of Alice Jean Rice

Alice Jean Rice, 78, of Louisa, KY passed away Tuesday, April 13, 2021 following an extended illness. Mrs. Rice was born June 28, 1942 in Paintsville, Kentucky to the late Homer and Edna Borders Lyons. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William Francis Rice; three children, Kathy Jean Rice Mynhier, William Gregory Rice, and Karen Lynn Rice Hubbard; one grandchild, Elizabeth Mynhier; one sister, Janet Castle; and two brothers, Ralph Lyons and Roger Lyons. 

She is survived by one brother, Homer Lee (Sue) Lyons; two sisters, Sue (Paul) Keener, Sharon Kay (Kenny) Lyons and Debbie (Joey) Johnson; four granddaughters, Samantha (Travis) Stone-Brooks, Jordan (Jammie) Kestner, Shelby (Cody) Kestner,  Hannah (Seth) Daniels; two grandsons, Sonny (KayDe) Mynhier and Tanner (Madison Blevins) Rice, one brother-in-law, Joe Castle; two sisters-in-law, Janet Kay Lyons, and  Christa Lyons; two great-grandsons, Aiden Mynhier and Lucas Kestner; two great- granddaughters, Lizzie Mynhier and Adeline Kestner; and a great-grandson coming very soon, Beckett Kestner; two sons-in-law, Darrell Mynhier and Joe Hubbard; and one daughter-in-law, Lori Rice.  

Alice Jean Rice was a full time mail carrier in Lawrence County, serving several customers on numerous routes. She was known and loved by so many that came to know her throughout her years working at the post office. She was strong in her faith and loved going to church anytime the doors opened. She never knew a stranger and would not let you leave her home until she offered you something to eat. Jean was well known in the community and will be missed by many.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM on Friday, April 16, 2021 at Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Vinny Vanhoose and Rev. Kenneth Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Clark Castle Cemetery. Friends may visit the family on Thursday, April 15 after 5:00 PM at the Wilson Funeral Home. All care has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.
