His son- in-law, Bill Barrett, also preceded him in death.
During the last few years of his life, Buck was well cared for by Three River’s Home Care. At the very end, Community Hospice was also kind and accommodating. This enabled Buck’s family to carry out his final wish of passing away at home, which he did peacefully in his sleep.
Buck is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Evelyn (Stephens) West. His daughter Cheryl Barrett of Ashland, KY; son Clay (Rhonda) West of Catlettsburg, KY; daughter Christina (Robert) Glossner of Abingdon, VA; son Cliff (Jamie) West of Louisa, KY; daughter Callee West of Blaine, KY. Two great grandsons, Jensen & Jace Stroud. Brothers, Spencer West (Joan) of Kenova, WV , Don West (Donna), Paul Junior West (Joyce) Eddie West (Teresa), all of Louisa, KY. Sisters, Edith Walker (Bob), of Louisa, KY and Lana Wright (George) of Springfield, OH.
Buck worked many years for Ashland Oil. He worked hard all his life. He enjoyed work and thrived from the accomplishment it gave him. Buck loved his family and was always there for them. Mom often said, “I can always count on your dad when I am in crisis.” What a wonderful testament to his love and dedication. Even more than his family, Buck loved God! Buck was saved as a young man just starting a family. He joined Elizabeth Baptist Church and they became his second family. Buck served short tenure as pastor at Elizabeth and was assistant pastor for many years. He was honored to serve God and the congregation.
Buck brought his children up with Sunday school, church plays, youth group, and Bible school. He brought them up in church and always instilled Christian values as their solid foundation. He left a testimony which unquestionably tells us where he is today. We know he is rejoicing in Heaven with his Savior and the loved ones that have gone on before him. He had pain and struggles in this life. The Bible doesn’t promise a life without pain or suffering but it does promise, “that he that endureth to the end will be saved.”Buck fought a good fight and kept the faith!
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Wilson's Funeral Home. Friends may call on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. until time of service.
In recognition of how much Buck loved his church, his family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to either Elizabeth Baptist Church or St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Buck always loved kids and they loved him back.
