Obituary of Charles Oscar Bowen

Charles Oscar Bowen, 60, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2022, at the Community Hospice Care Center.  He was a friend to anyone he met and loved by everyone. 

Born in Trenton, NJ, but grew up in Inez, KY.  He was the son of the late Juanita Whitt (Charles) Burdette and the late Runnie Bowen, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Phyllis Ann Bowen and Elizabeth Ann Bowen. He was a 1982 graduate of Lawrence County High School. He is remembered as being the class clown.  He was the grandson of the late Charlie and Hazel Whitt.  He was a member of the Fallsburg Fire Department.  He loved helping others and making people smile.  He enjoyed KY Wildcats basketball and football, watching TV, reading, and listening to music.  He will always be remembered as saying, “Hi-How everybody doing?” or “Smile, it’s not that bad!” His loving spirit will remain in the hearts of all who met him.

He is survived by his aunt, Rosie (John) Shurlock, uncles, Eddie Jo Whitt, Johnny (late Wanda) Whitt, Gene (Irene) Whitt, Donnie (Joann) Whitt, the late Charles (Dianne) Whitt, and the late Bob Preston and Bill Preston, as well as a host of cousins.

The memorial service will be held on February 25, 2022, from 6-9pm at the Fallsburg Tabernacle Church, 6011 KY-3, Louisa, KY 41230.  The burial will take place at the Whitt Family Cemetery in Inez, KY at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wilson Funeral Home, 1270 Hwy 2565, Louisa, KY 41230.
