Ralph Moore, age 91, of Louisa, passed away on May 25, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 18, 1922 in Newcomb, KY near Louisa. Ralph was the son of the late Eli and Nancy O’Daniel Moore of Newcomb Branch in Lawrence County. He was a graduate of Morehead State University with an Associate Degree in Vocational Education. He was a Lawrence County Vocational Auto Mechanics teacher for nine years. Prior to teaching, he was co-owner of Chaffin Service Center in Louisa where he worked as an auto body repair mechanic. He was also a mechanic at Pannell Pontiac Garage, Newton Chevrolet Garage, and Britton-Whitt Ford Garage. At age sixteen, Ralph served in the Kentucky Civilian Conservation Corps for a year. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII on U.S.S. Dorothea L. Dix and U.S.S. Fremont as a signalman. He was a member of Myrtle Chapel Church where he taught the adult Sunday School class for many years and was a past Sunday School Superintendent. Ralph was a previous member of the Myrtle Chapel Singers Group and sang for many years to honor the Lord. Ralph served as a board member for the Yatesville Memorial Gardens until his death. He retired in 1986, and spent much of his time woodworking in his garage and caring for his grandchildren. He was known for his quick smile and good sense of humor, always enjoying a good joke or story from friends. Ralph had a wonderful memory and wrote his memoir a few months before his death. In addition to his parents Eli and Nancy Moore, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy Rice Moore; a son, David Eli Moore of Danville, KY; two brothers, Alonzo Moore and Dan Moore; three sisters, Phyllis Carter, Elizabeth Chairatana and Reba Mayo. Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Dan) Gipson of Villa Hills, KY; a brother, Paul Fred (Laura Jane) Moore of Newcomb; a daughter-in-law, Laura Moore; four beloved grandchildren, Bill (Katherine) Dotson of Lexington, KY, Stephanie (Rob)Wessel of Ft. Mitchell, KY, Emma Moore of Lexington, KY and Jacob Moore of Lexington, KY; and two great grandchildren, Sylvia and Abe Wessel. Funeral Services will be at Myrtle Chapel Church on May 28 at 11:00. Visitation will be at Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, May 27 from 5:00-8:00.
