Obituary of Floretta Gail McKenzie

Floretta Gail McKenzie 91 of Louisa, KY passed away on Friday February 24, 2023 at her home following a brief illness.

Gail was born January 5, 1932 she is the daughter of the late Taylor Frazier and Martha Adkins Frazier. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merman McKenzie; two sons David McKenzie and Richard McKenzie; infant daughter Doretta Gay McKenzie; and granddaughter Kayla Cochran.

She is survived by a son Merman Ray (Gwen) McKenzie; a daughter Lisa Booth; grandchildren Matthew (Susan) McKenzie, Wade (Maria) McKenzie, Joshua (Nicole) McKenzie, Jennifer (Jay) Febish, Jason (Vicki) McKenzie, Brandi Hinkle, and Darren Booth; two sisters Connie Stewart and JoAnn Rife; and 19 great-grandchildren.

One of her greatest joys was being known as “Granny Gail” not just to her family, but anyone she would meet. After raising her children, Gail graduated from Marshall University in her 30’s where she became a medical technologist. After working for two different medical facilities, she later would purchase and run the Riverview Laboratory in Louisa, Kentucky for 40 years. She finally retired at the age of 80. Gail was an avid traveler having visited Russia, China, Romania, and much of the United States. She was a talented artist and writer. Having been active in church, as well as different organizations in the community. She built many lasting friendships. Most of all, Gail loved, honored, and supported her family.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday March 3, 2023 at 12:00 pm at the First Baptist church in Louisa, Kentucky with Pastor Ric Frazier officiating. Burial will follow at the Frazier Cemetery in East Lynn, West Virginia.

Friends may visit the family from 11:00 AM until the time of services on Friday March 3rd.
