Obituary of Peggy Jean Porter

Peggy Jean Porter 72 passed away September 16, 2023 at Harris Hospice unit at Novant Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Peggy was born September 11, 1951 at Beech Creek, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Harold and Goldie Mahon. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband James "Jim" Porter; her in-laws Rev. Fred and Ethel Porter; and a sister-in-law Connie Mahon.

Peggy was a Homemaker and caretaker to many while she worked as a cook for the Mingo County Board of Education for many years. After retirement she continued to serve her community as a volunteer at the Old Knox Nursing Home and Carolina Medical Center.

Peggy enjoyed reading her Bible and was a active member of the Church of God of the Bible. She loved doing crafts, working jigsaw puzzles, and singing karoake. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and her "grand dogs."

She is survived by a daughter Judy Porter and husband Kevin Keaney of Huntersville, North Carolina; a brother Ralph Mahon of Beech Creek, West Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday September 23, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Workman Cemetey on Right Fork of Mill Creek Road Fort Gay, West Virginia. Friends may visit the family on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of services at the Wilson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages everyone to make donations to Peggy's favorite charity Saint Jude's Medical Center in memory of her. 

Care for Peggy and her family has been entrusted to our family at Wilson Funeral Home.
