Obituary of Roy Elmer Hunt Sr.

Roy Elmer Hunt Sr. 78 of Fort Gay, West Virginia passed from this life June 12, 2024. He was born in Delbarton, West Virginia to the late Elbert and Parlee Dempsey Hunt. Roy was also preceded in death by his wife Willadean Lewis Hunt, a daughter Darlene Hunt, brothers Okie Ray, John, Frank, Sid, Louis, and Alex Hunt; sisters Minda Bailey, Nancy Dotson, Jean Spears, and Nellie Hunt.

He is survived by two sons Roy E. Hunt Jr. and wife Tammy and Timothy E. Hunt and wife Amy of Fort Gay, West Virginia. A Grandson Benjamin (Roni) Hunt of Flatwoods, KY; granddaughters Jessica (Caleb) Smith, Kaylee and Ally Hunt all of Fort Gay, West Virginia; and two great grandchildren Aurora Webb and Hunner Smith; brother Elbert Hunt Jr.; and sisters Barbara Marshall and Holly Subyak; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Roy had many jobs in life working at Federal Glass Co., Buckeye Steel, International Harvester, and as an owner operator of Hunts Service Center in Columbus, Ohio. Roy always had a desire to move back to his home state of West Virginia where he worked as a coal miner for Marrowbone Development for 28 years and retired as a proud UMWA member and was also a member of the Masonic Lodge of Fort Gay, West Virginia.

He was an avid livestock farmer and enjoyed raising and nurturing all animals. He was compassionate and willing to always help his neighbors and friends however he could.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday June 22nd at 4:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Tony Perry and Rev. Denny Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Hunt Family Cemetery on Big Sandy River Road Fort Gay, West Virginia. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday June 22nd from noon until time of services at the Wilson Funeral Home.
