I adored Dr Browning! I was one of the nurses at the Jordan Center. He taught me so much and he will be missed. I am a nurse in California now n I always still tell the nurses here, in California about our Louisa Dr. Browning. He was the best n I can picture him now teaching me about something. All the nights I had to call him in the middle of the night asking if I could do this or that. He was one of a kind!!!! Donna Sue Fannin Marks. My prayers are with the Browning family.

Dr. Browning was my mother's doctor for so many years. You knew he was in the clinic when you heard him whistling. He delivered me and my son was one if the last babies he delivered at Humana before it was Three Rivers Medical Center. He was so loved and I will miss him dearly. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Lloyd very long but he still touched my heart and I see many qualities of him in the family surviving him. As someone who joined the family recently, I only got to know Lloyd for a short while but even so, he treated me as family from the get-go. I instantly fell in love with him and Marcella and our long talks felt like only minutes. Lloyd was a great person and someone we should all strive to be like one day. Not only was he accepting- he was empathetic, positive, always laughing, and overall cared about you and I mean REALLY cared. I wish I had more time to talk with you Lloyd and get to know more of your stories. I feel blessed with the time AJ and I did spend and I see you in him too. Thank you Lloyd for being such an amazing man and for being so kind to me. I'll always have a place for you in my heart.

Having married into the family over 33 years ago, I was challenged how to eulogize a man like my father-in-law Dr. Lloyd Browning. After thinking about it, he can be described with two words.
The first is love. Lloyd loved. He loved his wife of 62 years. He loved his children and their families. He loved his sisters and their families. He loved his neighbors and their families. He loved Louisa, Lawrence County and the State of Kentucky. He loved being a doctor and he loved his partners, staff and all his patients. He loved gardening, fishing, traveling, story telling and making people laugh. He loved his church and the church family, and he loved his God and Savior, Jesus Christ. About the only thing he didn't love is when UK lost a game.
The second is positivity. He was the most positive person I have ever met-PERIOD! His battery had no negative pole, it was all positivity! He never complained about the nursing home calling. Never complained about the weather, the house needing repair or the pool heater failing. He never complained about his torn Achilles, pain when walking or his hearing loss. He never missed a beat to say something positive.
Lloyd passed in the evening on August 5th. That morning I was reading my daily devotional at breakfast before work and the scripture was John 7:33-34. It is Jesus speaking to his disciples but I reflect now and think it was Lloyd speaking to me. It says "I am with you for only a short time, and then I am going to the One who sent me. You will look for me but you will not find me; and where I am, you cannot come." When we put our hope, faith and trust in Jesus Christ, we will go home. We can take comfort in that.
Finally, when Melissa called that evening to tell me he had passed, aside from feeling extremely sorrowful and empty, the first thing that popped into my head was a lyric from the song "He Went To Paris" by the late Jimmy Buffett. That last lyric he sings, "Through 86 years of perpetual motion, if he likes you he'll smile and he'll say, 'Some of it's magic, some of it's tragic but I had a good life all the way.' "
That to me is Lloyd Browning. He was blessed and we were blessed to have known him.

Our sincerest condolences to Marcella, Ben and the rest of the family. I worked with Lloyd for 20 years, and shared many patients with him. He got me named to the Lawrence County Health Department Board, when the Lawrence County Health Department split from FIVCO. Eventually I served under him as Vice Chairman, while he was Chairman of the LCHD. He cared for the Health Department a great deal and worked hard to ensure his success. We worked together for the benefit of the Lawrence County Medical Society. Along with Dr. Edwards we had a history of the Society published. When my daughter was growing up he always asked about her and her academic progress, when he met her at medical staff functions of Three Rivers Medical Center. He followed her progress through college, graduate school, and law school, with great interest. Lloyd was proud of his heritage growing up in eastern Kentucky. When I arrived in eastern Kentucky 30 years ago from central NY (upstate), he did not believe that the Appalachian Mountains extended that far north, until I brought him a map. He really enjoyed that. Lloyd cared about his patients, whether in the hospital, the nursing home, or in the office. It should also not be forgotten that Lloyd, Dr. Edwards, and Dr. Phillip Carter in 1974 had two competing hospitals in Louisa. The Riverview Hospital, and the old Louisa Hospital. But times were changing, and regulations were becoming onerous, so they approached Humana. They said that they would close their respective hospitals, if Humana would build a new hospital in Louisa. That was how Three Rivers Medical Center got built, and opened in 1974. Suffice it to say that Lloyd touched many lives, and tried to help many people. He will be missed.

Dr. Browning was the first physician I met when I came to Louisa. He was chief of staff at the time and I was the first mid-level at Trmc. I remember having an interview with him as we were to discuss my role. As he reviewed my resume and seen I was from a neighboring town to Viper, we ended up discussing Eastern Ky that day. He touched so many lives and followed God’s calling for his life. I have always felt like our physicians at Three Rivers are special. Prayers for your family…….

I knew Dr Browning as a child when my parents, Edgel and Martha Jordan, owned a local poultry farm and we delivered eggs each week to the Riverview Hospital. He was always so nice to us. I attended Nursing School at Midway College and worked summers as a Nurse Aide at Riverview and became a coworker. When I graduated I returned to work there as a RN. I continued to work with Dr Browning for many years - until he retired. He was such a good doctor and a most unforgettable character, always pleasant, always whistling when he came to make rounds and had the unique ability to be both cheerful and very serious at the same time... his patients loved him as well as the staff. He was my mothers doctor for many years as well as mine. My mom always made him a homemade angel food cake each Christmas; I continued doing this for a few years after mom passed for as long as I could just to show our appreciation for his years of kindness.
Dr. Browning will always hold a special place in my heart.
