Obituary of Betty Merritt Hager

Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Betty Merritt Hager 94 of Louisa, Kentucky passed away August 19, 2024 at Three Rivers Medical Center following a brief illness.

Betty was born April 12, 1930 at Wayland, Kentucky the daughter of the late General Wesley annd Fannie Jordan Merritt.

Betty began her career in banking after graduating from business school in Lexington, Kentucky. Her first job was with First National Bank of Louisa and with Peoples Security Bank where she retired after 35 years making many lifelong friends.

She loved her family and her church. She was a devout christian and a member of the Louisa United Methodist Church since she was a girl coming from Wayland in Floyd Count. She was married there by her soon to be father-in-law Rev. J. C. Hager to her soon to be husband James R. Hager.

Betty, her sister Sue and their mother Fannie would go shopping and always go to "Jims" Restaurant. She had been going there since she was 13 and still went until her death at 94. She and her family made many friends there along the years.

Betty was a devoted mother driving her children to practices and events and meetings. She was active in the Methodist Womens Society and on many occasions spent time in the crowded kitchen preparing dinners for fellowship and fundraisers. She did all these things while working fulltime. Later after being retired she loved being there for her nephew Wesley and wife Cathy  four girls, Elizabeth, Abbey, Caroline, and Lydia. She picked them up from school and took them to activities when needed.

She took trips but one favorite trip was to tour England and Scotland seeing the sights she had read about and discovering new sights. She loved to read and often had 2-3 books going at one time. After retiring she voluntered at the library.

She was a great cook and baker and after her sister Sue died she took on her mission of baking bread and giving it to others.

She loved her grandchild Sarah and loved spending time with her during her school years.

She loved her life, God, family, extended family and many friends.

Betty Merritt Hager will be missed, loved and in our hearts forever.
