Obituary of Douglas Gene Adams

Douglas Gene Adams I of Louisa, passed away peacefully at his home on September 19, 2024, following an extended illness. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Pansy Adams. Also his children Paula (Tim) Hayes and Douglas Adams II. He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Timothy (Kennedy) Hayes, Ashley Hayes, and Hannah Adams, and 2 great - grandchildren, Mallory and Casen Hayes. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ishmael Worth and Jessie Adams; siblings: Christine Fitch, Louise Castle, Thomas Adams, Billie be Adams, Frances Fisher, Lindsay Jack Adams, Jerry Adams, and Sherry. Senters. He was also preceded in death by his precious granddaughter, Larryn Michaela Adams.  

Doug was born in Georges Creek, Ky on August 4, 1943. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served for 8 years, starting in 1963, where he did 2 tours in Vietnam, the first in the infantry, the second as a chopper gunner. He was honorably discharged on April 29,1971 as Staff Sergeant. 

Doug also served for 45 years as a proud Mason and belonged to the Scottish Rites. He is a long-Standing member of Richardson Lodge 699, serving several terms as Master of the lodge. He was also the 1983 - 1984 District Deputy Grand Master. 

Doug was saved in 1980. When he and his wife were baptized together,  several inches of ice had to be cut from the creek. He was a member Belles Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, serving as Secretary for a few years. 

Doug was a Foreman for CSX Railroad From 1975 until he retired in 1996. 

He was an avid Democrat, serving as a past Chairman of the Lawrence County Democratic Party. He was also a Kentucky Colonel and Admiral and a member of the American Legion Post 89 and VFW. 

Even though Doug had been involved in many things, his greatest love was for his family. Doug did very little without his wife, Pansy. When you saw one, you saw the other. He was extremely proud of his son and daughter. His love for his grandchildren was vast. He was terribly proud of his grandson, Timmy. He was fortunate enough to be able to attend all of his ball games and was his biggest fan. He was proud of the young man, husband, and father he has become. He recently got to attend Ashley’s college graduation and see her accepted into medical school.  He proudly said he wanted to be her 1st patient. He was so proud of his beautiful granddaughter, Hannah. She was always wanting to bring him coffee. He was proud to say, "She loves her Poppy and I love her," His Mallory and Casen loved visiting him. He loved watching them sing, dance, and run around playing. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. 

Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday September 22, 2024 at 3:00 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Wilson Officiating.  

Burial will follow in the Jessie Adams and Family Cemetery at Georges Creek. 

Friends may call on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at Wilson Funeral Home.
