Obituary of Jean Northup Sturgill
Jean Northup Kearns Sturgill youngest daughter of Olin W. and Carrie Vinson Kearns born Nov. 20, 1944, wife of Charles E. Sturgill passed away Oct. 26th, 2024. With her loving family by her side.
Jean accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior as a young child Jean often spoke of being baptized by her daddy whom baptized her by breaking the ice in the creek just before Sunday school. The ice then had to be broke yet again afterwards, but she didn't mind a bit.
Jean married the love of her life on her birthday at the age of 21. She was less than a month away from her 80th birthday, and 59th wedding anniversary. Jean was preceded in death by her parents Olin and Carrie Kearns, mother and father in law Andrew and Francis Sturgill, sister and brother in law Alta Jane and Bob Davidson, sister and brother in law Maewanda and Dick Welch, sister and brother in law Peggy and Bud McClure, sister and brother in law Hattie Ellen and Bill Bryley, brother and sister in law Joe and Glenna Kearns as well as other family members.
Jean is survived by her loving husband Charles, children Stacie (Andy) Hardwick and Charlie (Michelle) Sturgill, siblings Tommy (Linda) Kearns, Carolyn (Ersie) Finley, grandchildren Todd (Marsha) Davis, Nicholas Davis, Travis Davis, Andrea (Johnathan) Foley, Brittany Dalton, Adam (Taylor) Dalton. Great Grandchildren Brady Davis, Tanner and Haley Davis, Jenna, Johna and Daniel Foley, Kinsley, Harper, and Madelyn Dalton. As well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members who she dearly loved them all, and a special friend Clarene Gish.
Jean was a faithful devoted Christian whose hearts desire was to see her family serve the Lord. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and nanny who loved her husband, children, and grandchildren with all her heart. As well as a faithful member as much as possible to her church Pentacostal Truth Ministries and Mama Gish's bible study where she had many cherished friends, she considered family.
Funeral services for Jean will be held on Thursday, October 31st at 12:00 PM at the Wilson Funeral Home with\ Pastor Robert Kitchen and Brother Mac Ray Cyrus officiating. Burial will follow at the Sturgill Cemetery in Fort Gay, WV. Friends may visit the family on Wednesday, October 30th from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Wilson Funeral Home.
