Obituary of Elizabeth Susan Sammons

Elizabeth Susan "Libby" Delong Sammons, age 69, passed away peacefully at home after a three year battle with cancer on Sunday, May 3, 2015. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2015, at Capital City Christian Church with Dr. Steve Pattison officiating. Family and friends will be received at the church prior to the service beginning at 5:00 p.m. An additional Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at the Louisa United Methodist Church with visitation beginning at noon. Interment will follow in Yatesville Memorial Gardens. A native of Louisa, Kentucky, she was born October 13, 1945. She was the only child of Arvel Delong and the late Garna Sena Manda Rose Delong. She was a retired employee of the Local Health Services Branch, Department of Public Health, Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services and remained a dedicated advocate for public health services. Libby was a devoted member of Capital City Christian Church. She was an avid reader, enjoyed following the UK basketball teams, was a gifted pianist and will be fondly remembered by her many piano students. Libby is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, John M. Sammons; her children, David A. Blair (Cathy), Lawrenceburg, Susann Barrett (Mark), Hilliard, OH, Kristi King (John), Honey Brook, PA, Kobey Ruppert (Melinda), Mechanicsville, MD, Kami Groft (Gino), Hanover, PA, Kelly Ruppert (Cheli), Kyle, TX; and 13 grandchildren. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Brogan Kade Ruppert. Her family encourages expressions of sympathy to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601.
