Melvin Eugene Marcum 77 of Louisa, KY formerly of Dingess, WV went home peacefully to be with the Lord on Saturday March 18, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Melvin was born March 13, 1940 at Kirk, WV, the son of the late James Harrison and Vina Mae Tackett Marcum. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by five brothers Earl, Lonnie, Arthur, Phillip, and James, and three sisters Laura Belle Baisden, Eula Elliott, and Judy Carol Yates. He was a retired coal miner. Melvin was a minister in the Church of Christ, he often spoke at the Dingess Church of Christ where he was instrumental in bringing the Let The Bible Speak Program to the area. He loved his church and family and was an avid coon hunter. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years Oma Smith Marcum; two daughters Carolyn Lynn Marcum Dingess and husband John of Crum, WV and Sonja Mae Marcum Pack of Louisa; a son James C. Marcum and wife Linley of Chapmanville, WV; two brothers William Marcum and Donald Marcum; nine grandchildren Johnny Pack, Jordan Pack, Amy Brewer, Andrea Brewer, Christopher Marcum, Shane Marcum, Connor Harrison Marcum, Rose Dingess Marcum, and Michael Dingess; ten great grandchildren Jaxson Pack, Brycen Pack, Kaden Carey, Owen Carey, Victoria Dingess, Will Dawson Brewer, Gabriel Dingess, Jerica Dingess, Makayla Dingess, and Jazmine Marcum; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He had a special place in his heart for Arthur Basiden, Abby Basiden, and his brother Don. The family would like to especially thank the Community Hospice Staff, Jamie Green and Jackie Parsons; Dr. Marc Workman and his staff, Three Rivers Home Care, and the staff of Three Rivers Medical Center and Kings Daughters Medical Center. There will be a memorial service held at a later date in honor of Melvin's memory. Care has been entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home.
