Jay Edward Queen, of Fallsburg, died Oct. 20 with his loving family at his home, the farm of his boyhood and three generations before him. Born January 19, 1934 to the late Bert S. and Eunice Kelly Queen, he was also preceded in death by an infant son, Brandon, a grandson Steve Martin and sister Alice Fay Queen Holbrook. He was husband for 53 years to his surviving wife, Constance (Connie) Queen. He was Father, Dad, and Grandpa to three surviving sons: Dr. J. Brian Queen (Jewel) of Virginia, Rick S. Martin (Cherry) and Scott L. Martin of Lawrence County; three daughters, Michelle Martin of Maryland, Maleah Crumpler (Dennis) and Denise Sanchez (Michael) of Lawrence County, 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He was brother to surviving Bert Queen Jr. of New Hampshire. A graduate of the University of Kentucky School of Engineering he became an aerospace engineer during our early space program at Cape Canaveral. He installed and maintained tracking equipment in countries and islands in the South Atlantic to the Indian Oceans. He was a program manager of quality control systems on the testing of Atlas and Saturn rockets that took our Gemini and Apollo astronauts into space and on to the moon. He worked in our early Space Shuttle program before becoming a partner in Diversified Technology in Mississippi where he designed and installed energy management systems in school systems and industries across the country. He worked in Washington, D.C. in Communications and was awarded patents in ultra-wide RF Systems. He retired to the farm and he and his wife were involved in agriculture and established the first commercial wine grape vineyard in Lawrence County. He was a trustee and church leader at Garrett Chapel Church where he celebrated his 10th birthday in 1944 and his 80th birthday this past January. He was a veteran of the 82nd Airborne during the Korean War and he served at NATO headquarters in Paris, France. The funeral and celebration of his life will be held at Garrett Chapel Church at 11:00 o'clock on Saturday Oct. 25th. Visitation for family and friends will be at Wilson Funeral Home in Louisa from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Friday Oct. 24th . In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrance donations be sent to Garrett Chapel Church 14988 N. Hwy 3, Louisa, KY.
