ODE TO RUBY
Oh Ruby, My ruby, whatever shall I say?
So much of life has passed since I went away.
I remember a childhood with Sis for my friend.
And the promise we made “Together ‘til the end.”
The Years went by and our paths drifted as the tide,
Making our lives more difficult to walk side by side.
But never did we forget all the promises we had
To keep hearts touching through good times or bad.
The games played as children were lost and won
But the game of Life has been much more fun.
Teacher and student, to each other we have been,
And should life require, we would do it all again.
Love of a Sister and Brother cannot be sweet
Without the Memories of Life to make it complete.
Life’s fun and strife, we both know all too well,
And win or lose, only Time’s Great Judge will tell.
Oh ruby, My Ruby, endless well of delight--
Our great sunlit day has become just a Twilight.
And now, as Life’s Waltz gives cause to reflect,
I can recall our memories with love and respect.
